So, you are coming to Belgrade to attend WCEU. You will, for sure, have some time to sightsee and walk/drive around. Belgrade is not the biggest city but you will burn energy, and that needs to be replenished. Believe me when I say, there are plenty of places to do that! I will mention just a few of them and the rest can be researched, it makes it more fun that way 🙂
P.S. Almost all places have WiFi. It’s a common thing and food is served the whole day.
P.P.S. Most of their websites are built on WordPress (no correlation between suggestions and websites, I swear. 😉 )
Manufaktura
The local team already suggested it, and I simply have to mention it again due to their service, food and location.
Manufaktura is in the city centre and is a very popular place, with very good reason. Although its in the city centre, the noise level is surprisingly low (but can be very noisy in the evenings on weekends). Their food combines the best from every region in Serbia (i.e. grilled meat from Leskovac, cabbage from Futog, etc.) which creates an impactful and unique taste. The service is top notch and they all speak English (they got that going for them, which is nice). You will not make a mistake, whatever you order, but my favourite is “leskovački uštipci”. They are made from minced beef meat, with onions, bacon, cheese and spices. Usually, it is a little spicy, but not too much.

So i Biber
Next on the list and, I must add, one of my favourites is So i Biber (Salt and Pepper).
If you decide to visit So i Biber, you better be very hungry! Portions are pretty big and very tasty. They serve traditional food but, if your heart desires, there are other meals (although I would recommend going full traditional). The outside area is pretty soothing, so families and business people usually sit there. Staff are very polite. Don’t be surprised if they throw a joke here and there, they are pretty witty. Not all of them speak English but they will find you someone that does, so you are covered. If you do end up going there, you should definitely go with “Karadjordjeva”, it’s huge and very very tasty! It is a pork steak, rolled with ham and cheese.

Lorenzo & Kakalamba
Next one is, how to call it… special. Check their website and you’ll see what I mean. 🙂
I don’t even know where to start with this one. The design of the restaurant itself is weird on so many levels. Simply going there just to see it is enough. But then there is the food, oh the food! It is amazing! I usually eat chicken fillet with prosciutto and mascarpone. The most tender chicken I’ve ever eaten! Staff are very polite and they all speak English. Prices are higher by Serbian standards, but well worth it. Portions are not enormous, though they do feel just right when you finish of course.

Homa
The next restaurant got on this list thanks to my brother, because there will always be few people that like fine dining. So, I present a fine dining restaurant to you: Homa.
Fine dining restaurants are booming in Belgrade. That’s a fact. This one should be one of the best, starting from the design to the food that they create. Yes, I said “create”, because every meal is a creation on its own. Staff are also fluent in English and super friendly. Personally, not my cup of tea, but if you are a type of person that enjoys taste over quantity, this is the place to be!

Glow
In addition to our domestic and traditional food restaurants, we also have some awesome vegetarian restaurants to suggest. From many, we selected Glow.
To be honest, I don’t have much experience with vegetarian restaurants, but, as far as I’ve heard, Glow is an amazing place with very tasty food. Currently, the hype around this place is real! As one of the restaurant’s reviewers put it: “As a place that promotes more ethical food choices they already have all my blessings, but they go a step further in their vision with exceptional staff (in and out of the kitchen), no-smoking policy, cuisine that meets the highest expectations of the taste and health conscious customer, and ambience that impresses”.

Fast Food Restaurants
As far as restaurants go, I will stop here. Now comes the juicy stuff: local fast food. While you are in the city centre, you must not miss the “Bucko pizza”. It literally translates to fatty pizza. If you dare to go there, try pizza with beef salad and extra cheese. It’s a must. But don’t expect anything healthy.
Next on the list, pancakes (crepes). Glumac (Actor) is the place to be! Very tasty, different combinations. My favourite is with Nutella, biscuits and walnuts. The place looks dodgy but, believe me, the food is awesome.
When it comes to local food, I will just name a few and whatever you order, you will not go wrong. Poncho, awesome barbeque, close to the venue. Can be very crowded in the evening on weekend and Friday evenings.
For burger lovers, Burger House is a must. Cheesy name, awesome food. The guys that opened it take their job very seriously, I and my whole office can guarantee it. Walter, one of the best ćevapi in town. #protip order them with kajmak (product of milk). Very tasty, not so healthy. But hey, it will be June, so if you did not work on your body before, you will not work on it then, right? 🙂
Beer Places
So, you’ve walked and eaten well. It’s time to grab a drink as well. Recently, we have we seen a lot of breweries pop up in Belgrade. Basically, they are booming and, believe me when I say, owners are very passionate about it. It would be a shame not to give them a try while in Belgrade. I will just list them and will leave you to talk to the staff about recommendations.
One of the first places to open is “Samo Pivo”. Once you’ve been there, a few streets away is “Gunner Pub” as well as Pivo i Kobaja, Black Turtle (there are few of them throughout the city). I will stop here ‘cos, I could go on and on and on… and editor is already looking at me funny.
Oh, one more thing, and I honestly had to recommend this one to be visited. Druid Bar. If you want to taste seriously good whiskeys and cocktails, do go there. The owner and staff are very knowledgeable and passionate about it. You might have to call in for reservation but, never the less, give it a go.
There are many more places, this is just a mere fraction of them. If you are adventurous, please do ask a member of the local team while at WordCamp Europe, they will be more than happy to advise more on restaurants and any other subject.
This is the end!? Really? 😱
