This year we introduced workshops for the first time at WCEU. If you haven’t seen our Call for Workshops, you can read more about them here.
The workshops will last between 1 and 3 hours, and can have up to 80 people. It’s going to be a very dynamic and exciting environment to learn in. Our workshop hosts are coming prepared and ready to take on the challenge, but they need a little bit of help along the way. Would you be interested in helping our fantastic hosts?
The Teaching Assistant (TA) position will put you at the heart of the workshops, being part of a new content format we are offering for our WCEU audience. It’s your opportunity to teach alongside the best in the WordPress industry.
Why you should apply to be a TA at WCEU
Being a TA this year is a chance for you to meet a lot of new people, be a part of bringing new and innovative content to WCEU, and get first hand experience in helping to facilitate a workshop. If you have always wanted to create a workshop of your own, being a TA can give you a better understanding of the broader scope when it comes to planning, and executing a workshop.
It’s also a great way to share your own knowledge by supporting participants in their work throughout the workshop. If you are looking for more public speaking experience this is a great way to get started.
Overall we have 19 workshops; everything from branding and content to development and design. There is something for everyone.
What are the requirements for becoming a TA?
To be a TA you need to:
- Be available at the time of the workshop.
- Be knowledgeable in the workshop subject so that you can support participants that need the extra help.
- Be comfortable with communicating and working 1:1 with participants.
It would be great if you could also attend the volunteer social, and the speaker orientation to get to know the workshop hosts. You will be part of the speaker Slack group so you can meet your workshops hosts, and ask any questions you might have, as well as, cover any potential challenges that participants might face during the workshop.
Keep in mind that as a TA, you get a free WCEU ticket, as you will be part of the volunteer team, and we only ask you to make sure you are available to help out for the workshop you signed up for. The rest of the time you can enjoy the conference.
