What the Scholarship Is

The Kim Parsell Memorial Scholarship provides financial support to one active WordPress contributor who identifies as a woman and has never attended WordCamp Europe before. This year, we’re once again proud to help a deserving community member attend WordCamp Europe 2026 by covering the cost of:

  • Your WordCamp Europe 2026 ticket
  • Round-trip airfare
  • Lodging for the duration of the event

This support is made possible by the WordPress Foundation, continuing Kim’s vision of a more inclusive, diverse, and empowered WordPress community.

Who Should Apply

You’re encouraged to apply if you:

  • Are an active contributor to the WordPress project
  • Identify as a woman
  • Have never attended WordCamp Europe before
  • Have a financial need that might otherwise prevent you from attending

Whether you contribute to core, translations, documentation, design, community events, or any other part of the WordPress ecosystem, your experience matters, and this scholarship exists to help you bring it to a global stage.

WHO WAS KIM PARSELL?

Kim Parsell was a deeply cherished member of the WordPress open-source community, known for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering support of others.

She was affectionately called #wpmom for the nurturing support she offered, especially to women breaking into tech, and contributed countless volunteer hours, including work on the documentation team and support for major WordPress releases.

Sadly, Kim passed away in 2015, but her spirit of encouragement and service continues to inspire the global WordPress community. In her memory, the Kim Parsell Memorial Scholarship was established to support women who contribute to WordPress with financial assistance to attend flagship WordCamp events, extending her legacy of connection, inclusivity, and empowerment.
