Are you and your community passionate about WordPress and think you’re ready to welcome the largest WordCamp event in Europe to your home country?

If the answer is ‘yes’, please read on and find out about our Call for the 2028 Host City!

Summer 2028: Where will we be?

We’re ready to start accepting applications for the next location where we’ll be taking the WordCamp Europe stage – welcoming the largest gathering of WordPressers in the world. After a tour of many European countries, we’re now ready to start looking for the next host city.

You can make history by welcoming the event to your local city.

Collaborative organising at heart

Behind the scenes of every edition of WordCamp Europe, we have a dynamic organising team whose mission is to help plan the best possible event for our attendees. Working closely with the local team, our organising team collaborates for around 9 months before the event to ensure everything runs smoothly.

The team usually start from October and meet regularly, working together to help develop and prepare for the event.

This dynamic mix of passionate people brings together local insights and experience of years of organising expertise. This combined knowledge helps to create a seamless and enriching experience for our attendees, speakers, sponsors and volunteers.

You can make it happen in your host city!

If the idea of hosting and helping to organise the largest WordPress event in the world seems a little daunting at the moment – but is something you genuinely aspire to do – please don’t hesitate to apply. You’ll be supported with a team of organisers who collaboratively work together bringing their expertise and knowledge to support you.

If your team has successfully organised one or more WordCamps in a European city, you’re eligible to apply

How do we apply?

This survey has the following sections:

  • Local Community
This section is designed to find out more about your local community activity and your team.
  • The venue
We will ask you for details about the venue, its main characteristics, and the availability for Contributor Day. Pre-booking of the venue is mandatory for the application to be considered, and a budget estimation for catering services would be appreciated.

We’ll also provide this information to our Production Team to help them check the relevant details and may contact you to clarify items.
  • The host city
Basic questions regarding transportation, logistics and accommodation.
  • Additional information and pitch
Include any extra details which you think is important for your application and finally, your pitch! You can provide a link to a website or presentation – or both!

Venue

An appropriate venue should be chosen which allows for 1,200 – 1,500 seats in a main auditorium style layout, with supplementary spaces for additional tracks, workshops and approximately 15 rooms for support functions.

For example, at WordCamp Europe 2026 in Krakow, we’ll have

  • Track 1 which has 1,500 seats in a theatre style layout
  • Track 2 which has 550 seats in a theatre style layout
  • Workshop 1 has 200 seats in a classroom style layout
  • Workshop 2 has 40 seats in a classroom style layout
  • Large expo area of over 2,700m2
  • 14 rooms of various sizes, designed for back-office operations, support functions and other event spaces (such as Childcare and Media Rooms) which are approx. 20 – 70m2 each

This list is only indicative, as every venue is different!

Dates

Important: WordCamp Europe usually takes place around late May / early June each year, and we avoid the last weekend due to the traditional summer holiday period in European countries. Where possible, we try to avoid national holidays but especially respect those of the country which hosts us.

The provisional event days for 2028 to choose from are:

  • 8 – 10 June
  • 15 – 17 June

Note: We’ve used this Holiday Calendar to make sure that the weekends above don’t fall with any major holiday. If there is any important/major holiday that may match with any of those dates, please let us know via email at europe@wordcamp.org as soon as possible.

Don’t worry if you have questions about the process, or how to submit the requested information, you will have the support of our team to complete and send your proposal.

Timeframes

  • The application process is now open until 31 July 2026
  • The decision on the host city for WordCamp Europe 2028 is expected to be made by the end of September 2026.

Successful applicants will be invited to join the WordCamp Europe 2027 organising team in October 2026, to learn and experience what elements go into planning and hosting the event.

Transparency and clarity in the selection process

To ensure transparency, the Host City selection committee will create a level playing field by ensuring that all applicants and applications will receive the same assistance and receive all the help they need.

Applications will be ranked and compared based on the survey’s answers, with rankings determining the final selection.

WCEU has been held in countries such as The Netherlands, Bulgaria, Spain, Austria, France, Serbia, Germany, Portugal, Greece, Italy, Switzerland and Poland. There are still many countries in Europe that have not yet hosted WCEU, these countries will have preference in this selection process.

If we’re chosen, what happens next?

Members of the chosen city will be invited to join the next organisation team for WordCamp Europe 2027, gaining valuable insights into the process.

Our organising team will also help explain processes, how things work – and provide ongoing support for handover of activities for the next event.

We’re ready – what’s next?

If you’re a current organiser of a local WordCamp in Europe with a team eager to host WordCamp Europe in your city:

Applications will receive a decision by the end of September 2026.

We can’t wait to connect with you and discuss the possibility of your city hosting WordCamp Europe in 2028.

We wish you the best of luck!
