Contributor Day is a special day designated for contributing to WordPress. Collaborate with new and existing contributors, meet new people and learn about the different ways YOU can get involved in the project. Contributor Day is for everyone. All skills and levels of experience are welcome and needed.
WordPress is an open source project with an active community of people around the world contributing to the project to make it better every day. Contributor Day is an organized event the day before WCEU where you can share your contribution.
It doesn’t matter whether you are a developer, designer, writer, teacher, or just a user. You can be an absolute beginner or a seasoned veteran, there is a place where your contribution is needed! All you need is good spirits and some of your time to contribute.

How to participate
Contributor Day is free to the attendees of WCEU.
In order to participate in the Contributor Day of WordCamp Europe 2022, you must first purchase your regular ticket to WordCamp Europe and then fill in the Contributor Day registration form, this helps us maintain things at a manageable level.
The WordPress project is made up of a number of Make WordPress teams working on areas ranging from core and theme review, to design and marketing. On a Contributor Day, contributors from many of those teams will be present for collaborating and contributing. So this is a great opportunity to start your own contributing adventure.
No Experience? No Problem
The Contributor Day is NOT a day dedicated to gurus and experienced community members. It is a day for literally anyone who would like to contribute to the WordPress project, even if it is their first time doing so! Actually, it is a great opportunity to get to understand the idea of contributing firsthand and network with other contributors.
The Teams
To help you grasp the focus of the different Make WordPress teams we have made a small summary for you:
Accessibility
The a11y (accessibility) group provides accessibility expertise across the project. They make sure that WordPress core and all of WordPress’ resources are accessible.
Community
If you’re interested in organizing a meetup or a WordCamp, the Community blog is a great place to get started. There are groups working to support events, to create outreach and training programs, and generally support the WordPress community.
Core
The core team makes WordPress. Whether you’re a seasoned PHP, HTML, JavaScript, or CSS developer or are just learning to code, we’d love to have you on board. You can write code, fix bugs, debate decisions, and help with development.
CLI
WP-CLI is the official command line tool for interacting with and managing your WordPress sites.
Design
The design group is focused on the designing and developing the user interface. It’s a home for designers and UXers alike. There are regular discussions about mockups, design, and user testing.
Documentation
Good documentation lets people help themselves when they get stuck. The docs team is responsible for creating documentation and is always on the look-out for writers. The team blog has discussion around the team’s current projects.
Hosting
The Hosting team works to improve WordPress’ end-user experience across hosting environments through industry collaboration and user education.
Marketing
Our vision for the Marketing Team is to be the go-to resource for strategy and content for other WordPress teams.
Meta
The Meta team makes WordPress.org, provides support, and builds tools for use by all the contributor groups. If you want to help make WordPress.org better, sign up for updates from the Meta blog.
Mobile
The mobile team builds the iOS and Android apps. Lend them your Java, Objective-C, or Swift skills. The team also needs designers, UX experts, and testers to give users a smooth experience on every device.
Plugins
If you are a Plugin developer, subscribe to the Plugin review team blog to keep up with the latest updates, find resources, and learn about any issues around Plugin development.
Polyglots
WordPress is used all over the world and in many different languages. If you’re a polyglot, help out by translating WordPress into your own language. You can also assist with creating the tools that make translations easier.
Openverse
Openverse is a search engine for openly-licensed media. The Openverse team implements new features and new media types; maintains the public API and front-end search engine; and develops WordPress integrations to share Openverse with the entire WordPress community.
Support
Answering a question in the support forums or IRC is one of the easiest ways to start contributing. Everyone knows the answer to something! This team and it’s blog are the place for discussion of issues around support.
Test
The Test team patrols the flow across the entire WordPress ecosystem on every device we have at hand. We test, document, and report on the WordPress user experience. Through continuous dogfooding and visual records, we understand not only what is wrong, but also what is right. We immerse ourselves in the context of what we are making and champion user experience.
Themes
The Theme Review Team reviews and approves every Theme submitted to the WordPress Theme repository. Reviewing Themes sharpens your own Theme development skills. You can help out and join the discussion on the blog.
Tide
Tide is a series of automated tests run against every plugin and theme in the directory and then displays PHP compatibility and test errors/warnings in the directory.
Training
The WordPress training team helps people learn to use, extend, and contribute to WordPress through synchronous and asynchronous learning as well as downloadable lesson plans for instructors to use in live environments, via learn.wordpress.org. If you enjoy teaching people how to use and build stuff for WordPress, immediately stop what you’re doing and join our team!
TV
The TV team reviews and approves every video submitted to WordPress.tv. They also help WordCamps with video post-production and are responsible for the captioning and subtitling of published videos. Reviewing videos is a great way to learn about WordPress and help the community. Experience is not required to get involved.
Photos
The Photo Directory team moderates every photo submitted to the WordPress Photo Directory, maintains and improves the directory site itself, and provides resources and documentation to educate, encourage, and facilitate photo contributors.
If you are not sure which team would be the best fit for your skills, experience, and passion, you can use the Contributor Orientation Tool. In less than 1 minute the tool can help you decide which team to join at any WordCamp Contributor Day.
Not sure yet?
If you feel like contributing just come, and we will take care of the rest!
Preparation
A lot of communication-related to contributing will take place in Making WordPress Slack. Make sure you have access to this before Contributor Day to help avoid any technical issues on the day of the event.
There is a short video about how to get started with Slack here. If you are not familiar with contributing, this is also a great place to start snooping around to see how contributing is organised. All teams have meetings regularly and you can also join in on those meetings.
After the Contributor Day
If you want to keep up your contributing work during the rest of WordCamp Europe, we’ve got you covered!
A special quiet room will be available for you during the event days. Just check the venue map for Contributing Area.
