Polyglots Team Contributor’s story — Tor-Björn Fjellner

Tor-Björn well known as Tobi, a Swedish guy who was always been interested in technical stuff and communication, started using WordPress for his poetry back in the year 2010 and eminently contacted his site’s theme developer and contributed to Swedish and Russian translations of the WordPress Core.

In the year 2016 WordPress 4.7 introduced REST API which made many new strings available to translate. Tobi raised for this task and soon to his own surprise found himself a General Translation Editor. Since then he managed to grow the Swedish translation team and also become a permanent member of the Russian WordPress community.

“Where I really can make a difference, that’s in making WordPress available in Swedish.”

Tor-Björn Fjellner / tobi3.se/blog/ (Sweden)

The great and versatile tool WordPress can be free thanks to the contributions from thousands of users. I think it’s great that one can “give back” to WordPress and the community in so many different ways.

Like a professional translator, Tobi strives for clarity and have a testers’ mindset which brings value to other teams, like Core, Test and Support but his heart is always with Polyglots.

I’m not a coder, although I may be able to find and fix some small and simple errors in PHP/CSS/JavaScript. But where I really can make a difference, that’s in making WordPress available in Swedish.

Tobi can be modest but his efforts did not go unnoticed.

Later I even became a global mentor, so one could say that I support the processes that make WordPress available in more than 50 language versions.

He is a big advocate for translations and we wholeheartedly support him in this endeavor.

Did you know, that 55% of all WordPress installations are using a translated version of WordPress? I’m proud to be a part of that!
