Visiting Berlin with kids

How to enjoy #WCEU with your children

We love when people make #WCEU into a family affair by bringing their partners and kids! That’s why we’re offering the WordPress Workshops for Kids on 20 June, free childcare on 21-22 June, and have shared helpful practical information like transportation, dining out, and SIM cards.

Today, we’re here with another guide to help you make the most of your experience in Berlin: how to keep your kids entertained while you’re in town for #WCEU.

Berlin is a huge city with tonnes of attractions and opportunities. You won’t have any trouble finding something to do to keep your little ones occupied, but you might have a hard time choosing from the huge number of options! So we’ve taken advice from real life Berlin parents, and narrowed the list for you:

Adventure & Action

FEZ
The FEZ Berlin is Europe’s biggest non-profit centre for children, youth and families. They have big playgrounds, a forest and a large palace with workshops for kids. You can hang out at the space centre or go for a swim in their pool and lake, which even has a beach.

Jump House
The Jump House is Germany’s biggest hall for jumping, and also includes courts for games like basketball or dodgeball. The FoaJump and BagJump have huge foam pools to land in, so that you can try tricks and flips. Try fighting in the BattleBox, or test your stamina and skill in the SurvivalJump area. The Jump House is perfect for active kids, and is fun regardless of weather conditions.

Museums

Technic Museum
This museum has two parts: one explores the story of trains and machines, and the other takes you on a journey with demonstrations about visual illusions and various historical connections to culture and everyday life. It’s a great interactive learning experience for young and old.

Take advantage of lower entrance fees by purchasing a Kombiticket for access to this museum and the National History Museum.

National History Museum (Naturkundemuseum)
Explore the world of dinosaurs! Take advantage of lower entrance fees by purchasing a Kombiticket for access to this museum and the Technic Museum.

Miniatur Stadt Berlin
Experience the 750-year story of Berlin in a very special way: through miniature buildings, holograms and projections that bring old-time Berlin to life!

Computer Game Museum
Explore the history of gaming and development during the last 60 years. This museum features rare originals and hands-on, playable classic games! Check the website for special exhibitions and events.

Zoo & Animals

Berliner Zoo
If the weather is good (as it is forecast to be), go for a walk in the zoo and explore more than 17,000 animals. The website has details of special events, feeding times and shows. Maybe you can even take a walk with the llamas!

The zoo isn’t the only place to get your animal fix! Berlin has several other options:

Playgrounds

You want to go for a walk and enjoy nature? Berlin is one of Europe’s greenest capitals. Its diverse urban parks and landmark cultural projects in open spaces are a major contribution to the city’s quality of life and identity. Open public spaces are becoming increasingly important in urban development as a response to climate change, the increasing urban density of growing cities and the individual local recreational needs of their residents.

Lake & Swimming

It’s forecast to be warm in Berlin for #WCEU, so consider going for a refreshing swim in one of the beautiful lakes or indoor swimming pools in and around the city.

Go Explore!

This is just a short list of possibilities, but Berlin is a huge, diverse place, filled with all kinds of arts, culture and activities! Here are some final options to consider:

  • Visit this great list of options.
  • Do a Google search for weekend activities.
  • Simply walk out the door and see what you get – the range of things to do is big and tourist attractions are just waiting to be seen!
