Fall In Love With Belgrade And Take Photos In One Of The Most Beautiful Cities In Europe

  • Photograph one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Europe.
  • Apply for photographer, photo editor, videographer and video editor roles at WCEU 2018.
  • Explore the city that never sleeps, dripping in cultural history amongst bohemian streets.

WordCamp Europe 2018 has opened its call for photographers to document one of the biggest web conferences in the world in one of the oldest cities in Europe.

With a welcoming community that is described as easy going and open to all, Belgrade’s friendly citizens have a similar ethos to the global WordPress community. And as one of the oldest cities in Europe, Belgrade is a photographer’s dream, so photographers will want to continue their craft outside of the confines of this year’s WordCamp.

Belgrade dates back to at least 7000 BC, while the first settlement was built around 279 BC by the Celts, who named it Singidun. From that time onwards, Belgrade has fought in over 115 wars and was rebuilt 44 times! If you check your family history, some of your ancestors might have been conquering or defending the city.

Within its streets, architecture and various landmarks, you’ll get to see the prehistoric, Roman era, and remains from the Middle Ages. It seems that wherever you go, there’s a piece of history and a good story that follows, which is why you must visit significant landmarks such as Kalemegdan and Belgrade Fortress, Topcider park, Princess Ljubica Residence, Manak’s House. These places and historic monuments will set you back in time.

The quiet streets of Belgrade are dripping with cultural history, but it’s not just history that brings Belgrade to life. It is known in Serbia as the city that never sleeps. On its rivers, you’ll find floating clubs, and amongst its bohemian streets there will be music playing until dawn.

There are places like Trg Republike and Knez Mihailova street – everyone’s favorite meeting point and the main pedestrian street in the city center; and Skadarlija, the bohemian soul of the city, filled with good cafes and restaurants with live music.

Belgrade is the only city built on the confluence of two rivers, the Danube and the Sava, and when looked at from the Pannonian side, the rivers appear white, which is what gave Belgrade its name of the white city. You’ll fall in love with it as soon as you arrive.

WCEU photographer roles are open for applicants who love documentary-style photography or event coverage. There are also positions for photo editors to edit, process and share photos on social media during the event, and positions for videographers and video editors.

Help to make WCEU 2018 memorable by bringing your unique vision and your photo and video skills to Belgrade in June. Fill out this form to apply.

In a city with archeological sites, monuments and epic fortresses, as well as local markets, towers, bridges, parks with photogenic suburbs to explore, you can add some showstopping images to your photography portfolio during the same trip.

The call for photographers closes at 23:59 UTC on March 31, 2018.
