Meet Francesco Di Candia – Volunteers Team Lead

Basel, Switzerland 5 – 7 June 2025

Start with your name. Easy huh? 🙃

Francesco Di Candia

Tell us about your team in three words.

Dedicated, Energetic, Unstoppable!

If your team were a WordPress plugin, what would it do? 🤔

If my team were a WordPress plugin, it would be the ‘Ultimate Volunteer Optimizer’ – seamlessly organising tasks, boosting team spirit, and fixing any chaos with one click.

What’s the most unexpected skill you’ve used while organising WCEU? 🏄

Mastering the art of crowd-herding – a mix of event logistics, Jedi mind tricks, and the patience of a WordPress site waiting for a slow plugin to load.

Describe your WCEU experience so far using only emojis. Add as many as you want.

🚀🤩🎤📝💡🤝☕️🏃‍♂️🔧🎉😅🔥

What’s the funniest or most memorable moment you’ve had with your team?

During one of our planning calls, someone’s cat decided to walk across the keyboard and accidentally assigned all volunteers to the same shift. Cue 30 seconds of panic followed by 5 minutes of uncontrollable laughter – and a new ‘no-cats-on-keyboards’ policy.

If WCEU were a music festival, what would be your team’s anthem? 🪇

“Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen – because we’re having a blast, moving at full speed, and nothing can slow us down (except maybe a slow WiFi connection).

What’s one thing people don’t realise about your team’s work behind the scenes? 🪁

People don’t realise that we’re basically WordPress ninjas – juggling schedules, solving last-minute crises, and making everything look effortless, all while running on coffee and pure determination.

In the spirit of open-source collaboration, what’s the best lesson WCEU has taught you about teamwork?

That teamwork is like open-source code – everyone brings their unique skills, we iterate and improve together, and the final result is something greater than the sum of its parts. Plus, just like in WordPress, the community is everything.

Which famous fictional character would make the best addition to your team, and why?

Mary Poppins – because she’s endlessly organised, efficient, and always has a trick up her sleeve (or in her bag). Plus, she could probably teach us how to manage last-minute changes with a spoonful of sugar

Convince someone in 10 words or less why they should join WCEU next year.

Unforgettable people, inspiring talks, epic vibes, and amazing community spirit
