What is Contributing?

Contributing to an open-source project like WordPress means getting involved in its growth, improvement, and sustainability. It’s about working together to improve WordPress, and the good news is that you don’t need to be a developer to contribute.

There are many ways to participate, whether you have technical skills or not. Every contribution counts.

Technical Contributions

If you enjoy working with code, design, or testing, you can:

  • Test and report bugs in WordPress core, themes, or plugins
  • Write and submit patches for bug fixes or new features

Non-Technical Contributions

Not a developer? No problem — here are just a few ways you can help:

  • Translate WordPress into your local language — including plugins, themes, and even subtitles for videos
  • Help others in the WordPress support forums
  • Create or update lesson plans and educational materials
  • Promote WordPress through marketing initiatives and community outreach

Whether you’re writing code, translating content, supporting users, or sharing ideas, you’re helping to shape the future of WordPress.

Why Should I Sign Up?

There are so many great reasons to join Contributor Day — but here are just a few to get you started:

1. Give Back to WordPress

If you use (and love!) WordPress, you already know it powers more than 43% of the web. What keeps it going? People like you.

WordPress exists and evolves because of its community of contributors. Your time, ideas, and skills help shape the platform millions rely on — and that’s something worth being part of.

2. Connect with Others

Contributor Day is a great opportunity to meet fellow WordPress enthusiasts, share ideas, and build lasting connections. Whether you’re looking to make friends or grow your professional network, this is the place.

3. Learn Something New

Use your existing skills in a meaningful way — or try out something completely different. With so many teams to join and areas to explore, it’s a perfect setting to learn, grow, and get inspired.

4. Make a Real Impact

Whether you’re contributing code, translating content, writing documentation, or brainstorming big ideas, your efforts make a real difference in the future of WordPress.

5. Have Fun!

Above all, Contributor Day is a high-energy, welcoming space full of passionate people. Come and experience the collaborative spirit that makes the WordPress community so special.

What Can I Expect?

New to Contributor Day? Don’t worry — you’re in good hands.

Experienced contributors will be there to support you every step of the way. Just look out for the friendly faces wearing green dot stickers — they’re there to answer questions, guide you through the day, and help you find your place in the contributor community.

And if you’re already experienced, consider giving back by “adopting” a newcomer. Your support can make a big difference.

Here’s What the Day Looks Like:

  • A buzzing, high-energy atmosphere – Contributor Day is dynamic and collaborative, with people chatting, sharing, learning, and building together.
  • Plenty of guidance – You’ll get the help you need to contribute confidently, no matter your background or experience.
  • Flexible ways to get involved – You can stick to what you know or explore something completely new. Not enjoying the table you picked? You can switch anytime!

Whether it’s your first or fifth Contributor Day, expect a welcoming environment, meaningful work, and a fun experience that celebrates the power of open-source collaboration.
