General information
Our venue this year is the Messe and Congress Center Basel complex, which is fully accessible for people with mobility impairments. All areas can be reached with lifts or ramps. The OK:GO Initiative, which supports Switzerland’s tourism industry in addressing the travel requirements of people with disabilities, senior citizens and families with small children in an appropriate and targeted manner, offers detailed information regarding accessibility at the Congress Center on this website.
Additionally, assistance dogs are warmly welcomed at the Congress Center, and for their comfort, a convenient dog park is just a short stroll away.
On event days, you’ll be able to locate a member of the organising and volunteering team as they’ll be wearing Black or Grey branded WCEU T-shirts and will be happy to assist you.
As part of our sustainability commitments, we will not be distributing printed copies of the event schedule or maps of the venue – however, we will have large print versions of both located within the venue for communal use by all attendees.
You can view our Venue Map for details of key areas, and we’ve a dedicated sponsors map (coming soon) to help you locate organisations you’d like to meet. The venue has a number of seated areas available, both around the presentation rooms and the sponsor area.
All areas which we’re using will be clearly signposted using WordCamp Europe branded signs in English language, and you’ll find our Volunteers and Organisers around the venue if you need help locating a specific area.
Useful info (Venue)
- The venue will be clearly signposted with signage from the nearby tram and bus stop (called Messeplatz) and also with banners on the approach and outside the building.
- The Congress Center spreads over several floors, but there are escalators and lifts to reach each floor.
- There is a large car park located adjacent to the building which has 722 parking spaces, plus 5 accessible spaces on the 4th level. The parking prices can be seen here.
- The city of Basel offers 199 Electric Car Charging stations, including one at the Messeplatz. You’ll need a Chargemap Pass to charge at this station. Further charging stations in Basel can be located on this parking portal.
- Toilets within the venue are clearly marked including those which have additional access facilities or are allocated as gender-neutral. You can check the location of your nearest facilities on our venue maps, and they will also be signposted accordingly. Sanitary items will be available within gender-neutral and accessible toilets – please let a volunteer know if you need any assistance or if additional sanitary items are needed.
- You can also locate toilets on our venue maps.
- Numerous seating options are available at the venue, including where there will be waiting lines
- Guide dogs as well as assistance dogs are welcome at the venue.
- There is no luggage storage facility at the venue available. Most hotels in Switzerland are prepared to keep the client’s luggage until departure time, even after checking out. There lockers at the SBB train station (sizes and prices here). The Radical storage website also offers suggestions for luggage deposit.
