Accommodation in and around Basel

Where should you stay in the Basel region during WordCamp Europe 2025? The city of Basel certainly has no shortage of beds in all hotel categories, from palaces to youth hostels and including all the customary in-between options to be expected in large cities. The good news is that rooms will be considerably cheaper during WordCamp than they are two weeks earlier, during the Eurovision Song Contest, which is also being held in Basel!

Hotel Platform

The demands will be as diverse as the WordPress community itself. To help you make your choice, the Basel Tourist Office has provided us with a platform to help you select the fitting room based on various selection criteria. Several hotels are located very close to the Congress Centre, in “Kleinbasel”, on the right bank of the Rhine. The Hotel Marriott even has direct access to the Centre, while the Hotel Hyperion is just behind the “Messe”.

Hotel Booking Platform

BaselCard

All guests staying in a hotel in Basel receive a BaselCard, valid for the whole stay. This card entitles you to ride on all public transport in Basel – including your initial journey to your hotel. It allows you to use second-class public transport in the city of Basel and the surrounding area (TNW zones 10, 11, 13/EuroAirport, 14 and 15).

The booking confirmation of your hotel or Airbnb in Basel serves as a free ticket for the transfer from the Basel airport or train station to your hotel. More information on this page.

Those of you who opt for a hotel situated in the canton Basel Landschaft (such as the Holiday Inn in Allschwil) will receive the GuestPass+. This also enables public transport in the Basel region free of charge.

Alternatives to hotels

If you don’t want to stay in a hotel, you can, of course, find flats on Airbnb or other booking platforms. Please note: not all of these flats are eligible for the BaselCard. It’s best to check first on the BaselCard website.

It is also possible to find accommodation across the border, in Weil am Rhein (Germany, access with the tram 8) or Saint-Louis (France, tram 3 to the Saint-Louis border crossing or access by train to the centre of Saint-Louis). However, hotels across the border do not offer the BaselCard.
