WordCamp Connect offers an open platform dedicated to fostering WordPress community participation. These sessions are designed as a collaborative space for brainstorming, engaging discussions, and collective creation. Led by seasoned members of the community, we invite all WordCamp attendees to engage, share ideas, and make your voices heard. This year the Community Team is proud to host 5 events during WCEU 2024.
WC Connect happens in 2 lovely locations this year: during the morning sessions you can find us on the way to Track 2 (Sala Azzurra in Hall 3) in our mini arena, and during the afternoon sessions we are located inside Sala Azzurra.
Conference Day 1 (Friday, 14 June)
Morning Session
- Time: 11:15 -12:00
- Location: WordCamp Connect Arena
- Session Leaders: Nahuai Badiola & Simon Kraft
- Setting Sustainable Standards: WordPress powers 43% of all websites. Reducing the emissions from WordPress sites at a global scale would make a significant impact on the internet’s carbon footprint. How can we, as a community, set and promote sustainable web development standards to really move the needle in the battle against climate change?
Afternoon Session
- Time: 16:30 -17:30
- Location: Track 2 (Sala Azzurra)
- Session Leaders: Carole Olinger, Karim Marucchi and Courtney Robertson
- Democratising Opportunities: Contributing to the WordPress project is something most of us love doing, but the financial opportunity to do so is only available to a select few. Financial stress is detrimental to contributors’ mental health and leads to suboptimal contributor churn rates. How can we foster a contribution culture that attracts sponsors to increase the number of sponsored contributor hours, thus improving the mental health and wellbeing of 5 for the Future participants?
Conference Day 2 (Saturday, 15 June)
Morning Session
- Time: 10:00 – 10:45
- Location: WordCamp Connect Arena
- Session Leaders: Katie Keith, Liza Bogatyrev, & Disha Pegu
- The ROI of Community Engagement: Sponsoring WordCamps: Discover and understand the true value of community investment in this panel discussion from those who have successfully sponsored WordCamps. This panel will discuss the tangible benefits that sponsors can expect, including enhanced brand visibility, community growth and strengthening the WordPress ecosystem.
- Time: 11:15 – 12:00
- Location: WordCamp Connect Arena
- Session Leaders: Isotta Peira, Naoko Takano, & Josep Morán
- Introduction to the Mentorship Program: The concept of sharing is at the heart of the Open Source world and therefore also of WordPress. The Mentorship Program, which came to life last year at WCEU, was created so that more experienced contributors share their knowledge and practices with new and future contributors.
Afternoon Session
- Time: 15:15 – 16:15
- Location: Track 2 (Sala Azzurra)
- Session Leaders: First Time WCEU Attendees
- First Time Attendees Let Us Hear Your Voice: The WordPress community opens its arms to first time attendees and we want to hear your feedback on WCEU 2024. We have created a list of questions to start the discussion and invite you to share about your experiences during the conference. The WordPress project needs influence from new contributors just as much as seasoned vets so we ask you to join us during the last session in Track 2 to contribute your ideas about our future flagship WordCamps.
All attendees are invited to join WordCamp Connect sessions and participate in the open discussions. Everyone’s point of view is welcomed and appreciated. No prior experience or expertise level is required, we’re just looking forward to hearing your voice and making contributions to the future of the WordPress project.
We can’t wait to see you at WordCamp Connect!
