Our Call for Volunteers closed on 28 February 2024
WordCamps rely on awesome volunteers! Every year, friendly people from all over the world pitch in to help their local WordPress communities host conferences.
And guess what? WordCamp Europe 2024 needs a bunch of fantastic volunteers too, to make sure we put on an unforgettable event!
Roles and responsibilities
Organising a big event like WordCamp Europe involves lots of tasks to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Check out our Volunteer roles to learn more about what our Volunteers will be doing.
Remember, the list of roles is not set in stone and might change as we get closer to the event. You don’t have to decide right away which role you want to take on. You’ll have plenty of time to decide after submitting your application.
What tasks are included in volunteering?
By joining as a volunteer, you’re letting us know you’re ready to dedicate your time at WordCamp Europe 2024 to support the Organising Team. We’ll count on you to be available for your volunteer tasks during the event.
Volunteering will only take up a maximum of two half days or one full day throughout the two event days. If you’re up for it, there’s also an option to volunteer on Contributor Day. This leaves you with plenty of time to fully enjoy the conference as an attendee.
As a volunteer, you’ll get one or two cool collectible volunteer t-shirts. Your ticket is on us, which means you get a fantastic 100% discount on the ticket price.
And that’s not all – you’ll get an exclusive invitation to the Social, along with free entry to the conference and After Party!
Bring your warm and welcoming presence
Being a Volunteer means you’re the friendly face of the event. To be part of the team, we ask you to:
- Be kind, respectful, helpful, and work well with others.
- Keep a positive attitude.
- Follow the Code of Conduct.
- Wear your volunteer t-shirt during your shift.
And most importantly, it’s all about creating a great and friendly atmosphere!

Volunteer Roles
Alongside our awesome organisers, WordCamp Europe gets an extra boost from a fantastic crew of volunteers and team members who work their magic to support our event, ensuring every attendee has the absolute best experience. Curious about the volunteer roles? Check out the list below!
Attendee Services:
- Accessibility Support: Your job is to support attendees with extra needs, including those with disabilities or requiring assistance in specific venue areas. Familiarise yourself with wheelchair-accessible spots like elevators and access routes to Tracks or Workshops. Your role isn’t confined; you might also help volunteers with diverse accessibility needs to navigate the venue.
- Information Desk & Lost/Found: Get ready to be the WCEU info maestro! If you accept it, your mission involves sharing intel on venue spots, tracks, and event schedule. There is no pressure to have all the answers (though superhero status if you do!), but being the go-to helper is your game. When stumped, channel your inner detective and reach out to the team or organiser for guidance. Bonus points: you’ll also play detective for lost & found items, keeping them safe until their owners come to claim them.
- Registration Desk: You’re the VIP greeter at the conference! Your mission: give attendees the warmest welcome ever. Get ready to be the go-to source for initial info, plus the badge maestro for attendees, volunteers, and speakers. Let the welcoming festivities begin!
- Swag Station: Prepare to take on the role of the swag virtuoso! Your job: keep the swag table in tip-top shape, unbox those treasure-filled boxes, and hand out free goodies like a pro. Bonus points for checking attendance records – you’re not just a swag master but a swag superhero!
Community Team
- Community Booth: Welcome to the Community Booth HQ! Your mission: Spark conversations with attendees, tackle their burning WordPress questions, and be the go-to guru for the community, contributions, and making teams. Get ready for some booth banter and wisdom sharing!
- Hallway sessions: Get ready to lead the chatter in casual sessions! Your task: guide discussions smoothly, keep the good vibes flowing, and always remember the Code of Conduct (CoC).
Media & Communications Team
- PR Support: Join the PR party! Help make those scheduled interviews with Media Partners a smash hit. It’s all about teamwork and a sprinkle of PR magic!
- Social Media: Become our social media creative mind! Rule the X realm (and conquer Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn). Dive into the social world with attendees and fans, and make our event the talk of the world.
Content team
- MC: Your role is to warmly introduce the speakers and facilitate the exchange of information between talks.
- Organiser Assistant: The surprise mission! The task will be signed on the spot.
- Speaker Assistant: Guardian of the speaker zen for 1–2 sessions!
- Workshop Assistant: Gear up the workshop host with all the essentials. Assisting with room setup. Play ticket maestro (perhaps?). Roll out the red carpet for the workshop host – cue the epic intro!
- Workshops Registration: Scope out the know-how, gear, and techy essentials. Distributing tickets. Tech guru vibes – ensure all prerequisites are a breeze. Fast-track the eager attendees signing up for the workshop blastoff. Throw some help around when time is on your side. Ready, set, multitask!
Local team:
- Lunchtime Support: Welcome to the short-and-sweet shift! Your gig: guide hungry attendees to lunch with style. Know the food stations like the back of your hand, and help folks find their flavour—Halal, veggie delights, and more! Let the controlled lunchtime adventure begin!
- Runners: Get ready for the “Support Superhero” role! Your mission: cater to our amazing volunteers’ every whim during their shifts—whether it’s H2O, snacks, or fetching their forgotten cape from the volunteers’ lair. You’ll be the lively ‘runner,’ zooming around the venue like a flash (without lightning bolts). Please stay connected with your volunteer planner on Slack, armed with a trusty mobile device, and be the hero your volunteer colleagues in the Slack channel didn’t know they needed!
Photography team
- Media Wrangler: Become the Photo Magician! Your task: pick and prep event pics from our photography wizards. Swiftly share them with the Communications team for social media shenanigans and website wonders. Get ready to turn moments into magic!
Sponsors team
- Sponsors Support: Embrace your role as the Sponsor Superstar! Your mission: swiftly handle sponsor hiccups—whether on-the-spot fixes or teaming up with the Sponsor Squad. Think of it as customer support with an extra dash of sidekick twist!
Volunteers Team
- Runner: Get ready for the Support Sidekick role! Your gig: pamper our fantastic volunteers during their shifts—be it H2O, snacks, or rescuing forgotten items from the volunteer lair. You’ll be the energetic ‘runner,’ zipping around the venue like a superhero in action. Stay in touch with your volunteer planner on Slack, armed with your trusty mobile device, and be the go-to for your fellow volunteers’ requests in the Slack channel. It’s like a marathon of helpfulness with a sprinkle of Slack banter!
