Hello, Selena! Which team are you a part of, and what is your role?

Hi there, I’m part of the photography team. I’m here to help coordinate our volunteers and share the workload with other team members during the event

Where are you from / where are you based?

I’m from Italy and, at the moment, I live in my hometown. A small city in Abruzzo in the middle of the Apennine.

When did you first get involved with the WordPress project, and have you contributed to the project previously?

The first time that I contributed to WordPress was in Seville during the Contributor day of WordCamp Europe 2015. I don’t remember exactly, but I believe it was with the polyglots team.

This is when I fell in love with WordPress Community and I decided to start a local meetup – I attended as many WordCamps to help and support as I could.

Is this your first time organising WordCamp Europe, or have you been an organiser/volunteer previously?

I started volunteering in 2016, mostly in the Italian community and then I decided to get more involved, and, last year, I applied to be an organiser at WordCamp Italy 2022, WordCamp Turin 2022 and WordCamp Europe 2023!

Which team are you on, and what is the team responsible for?

I’m on the Photography Team, and we are responsible for documenting the event in many different aspects. Not only the attendees, the speakers, the venue and food…but mostly the smiley faces, the conversations and the atmosphere that it is possible to experience only during a WordCamp!

What are you and your team working on at the moment?

At the moment the team is busy planning and discussing what we can improve for WordCamp Europe 2024 starting from the feedback collected during WordCamp Europe 2023 and from other events as well.

What are you excited about for WordCamp Europe?

Meeting old friends, connect with new people, attend the talks, interact with the sponsors… basically, the WordCamp itself!

What would you say to people thinking of applying as an organiser or volunteer for WordCamp Europe?

Don’t give it a second thought! It is a decision that nobody will regret!

Being involved and seeing behind the scenes will give a different perspective of the event.

If you have been on the organising team previously, what are one or two things you learned from the experience?

I learnt that when the WordCamp starts, you have only 3 days!

So, be prepared to work hard and to find the time to enjoy as well!
