{"id":14928,"date":"2023-05-25T18:16:43","date_gmt":"2023-05-25T15:16:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/europe.wordcamp.org\/2023\/?p=14928"},"modified":"2023-05-25T18:17:33","modified_gmt":"2023-05-25T15:17:33","slug":"introducing-our-wapuus-for-wordcamp-europe-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/europe.wordcamp.org\/2023\/introducing-our-wapuus-for-wordcamp-europe-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Introducing our Wapuus for WordCamp Europe 2023!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Today we&#8217;re excited to introduce you to our amazing Wapuus mascots for WordCamp Europe 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And yes, we mentioned <strong>Wapuus <\/strong>&#8211; we&#8217;ve <strong>two<\/strong> amazing mascots for our event in Athens!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is a Wapuu?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;ve been to WordCamp events before, you&#8217;ll be familiar with Wapuus. Athena was the Olympian goddess of weaving, pottery, crafts, heroic endeavour, war, wisdom, good counsel &#8211; and defence of towns (Such as Athens!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Athenian pottery is an instantly recognisable symbol of Greece, especially as the creation and design of these covers approximately 23 centuries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The largest collection is found at the National Archaeological Museum in Athens &#8211; we&#8217;ve even added a <a href=\"https:\/\/europe.wordcamp.org\/2023\/athens-art-walk-spend-your-day-visiting-the-museums\/#The-National-Archaeological-Museum\">guide to the museum here<\/a>! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The vase is showing a range of traditional symbols, including the WordPress logo on a blue background representing the Aegean sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our main Wapuu was designed by <a href=\"https:\/\/europe.wordcamp.org\/2023\/organizer\/ohia\/\">Ohia<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>And we&#8217;ve also a second Wapuu which represents the social and friendly nature of modern day Greece &#8211; where people gather together to social over traditional Greek food and drink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">..and also to our <strong>Gyros Wapuu!<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"909\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/europe.wordcamp.org\/2023\/files\/2023\/05\/WCEU23-Wapuu-Gyros.png?resize=909%2C1024&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Gyros Wapuu\" class=\"wp-image-14952 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/europe.wordcamp.org\/2023\/files\/2023\/05\/WCEU23-Wapuu-Gyros.png?resize=909%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 909w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/europe.wordcamp.org\/2023\/files\/2023\/05\/WCEU23-Wapuu-Gyros.png?resize=266%2C300&amp;ssl=1 266w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/europe.wordcamp.org\/2023\/files\/2023\/05\/WCEU23-Wapuu-Gyros.png?resize=768%2C865&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/europe.wordcamp.org\/2023\/files\/2023\/05\/WCEU23-Wapuu-Gyros.png?resize=1364%2C1536&amp;ssl=1 1364w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/europe.wordcamp.org\/2023\/files\/2023\/05\/WCEU23-Wapuu-Gyros.png?resize=1819%2C2048&amp;ssl=1 1819w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/europe.wordcamp.org\/2023\/files\/2023\/05\/WCEU23-Wapuu-Gyros.png?w=2000&amp;ssl=1 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 909px) 100vw, 909px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>You&#8217;ll find Gyros across the city, from within restaurants to even being sold on the main streets &#8211; it&#8217;s a traditional meal which consists of thinly sliced pieces of pork (or chicken) and mixed with a range of spices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After cooking, the meat is served in a lightly grilled pitta bread along with sliced tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and french fries &#8211; along with a big splash of tzatziki.
