Hi there, I’m Okaeri Wapuu!
My name is Japanese: “Okaeri” is the informal way of welcoming people into our homes in Japan.
I have been given this name as a tribute to the original creator of the first Wapuu, Japanese illustrator Kazuko Kaneuchi.
In just over a week, the WCEU team will be welcoming people from across the globe and I’m coming along from WCES (WordCamp Spain, which was the first WordCamp to be designed from scratch to be purely online) for the fun.
I hope to represent the essence of the event: of connecting, sharing and learning with the WordPress community from the comfort of our homes.
Laura Carracedo and the WCES design team brought me to life and now the kind designers from WCEU have given me new blue pyjamas and a new laptop sticker especially for my next adventure. Let’s hope another online WordCamp adopts me so I can get another cool makeover!
Say “OKAERI” (pronounced okáeri) at the beginning of a talk or when asking a speaker a question to welcome everyone into your home.
Okaeri! I’ll be by your side throughout the event, eating popcorn, drinking coffee and wishing you a fun and fruitful time at WCEU.
Hugs from Wapuu
Okaeri
waiting to see you around
