WordCamp Europe 2020 in Porto has been postponed due to the ongoing and increasing uncertainty of the impact of COVID-19. We’d like to explain to you what this means.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce WordCamp Europe will be postponed until 2021.
The decision to postpone WCEU 2020 was not made lightly, as each member of the organising team is deeply invested in the event, but it was made collectively.
As a community, we have decided, after carefully monitoring the international situation, the advice of organisations such as the World Health Organization and WordPress Community Support (aka WordCamp Central), and the concerns of our community, that the in-person event we envisioned — a diverse, inclusive, safe, fun, and educational event — is impossible, given the current circumstances.
Ticket refunds
All paid WCEU 2020 tickets will be refunded automatically through the same payment method used to purchase the ticket. You do not need to request a refund manually.
It may take up to 15 days for the refund to appear in your account, depending on your bank. Please note that if you purchased your ticket via PayPal more than 180 days ago, it may take more time to refund the cost of your ticket, but it will be handled as soon as possible.
Hotels and flights
Please cancel your hotel and air bookings if they are refundable.
WordCamp Central has provided this letter to help you explain the circumstances, which may be helpful if you have trouble receiving a refund for your flight and/or hotel without fees.
Sponsors
We are grateful to all of our sponsors for their ongoing support. We will be contacting all sponsors directly over the next couple of days to discuss the next steps, with information about refunds and the possibility of participating in WordCamp Europe 2021. We hope you’ll join us!
Our community <3
This is, by far, the most heartbreaking part of a cancellation: the fact that we won’t get to gather together in person, to connect, share knowledge and inspire one another during our sessions, hallway tracks, and dinners.
We want to thank our speakers, sponsors, volunteers, and fellow organisers for the hard work and dedication.
What about an online event?
We are exploring the option of providing an online event, but no final decision has been made yet. We will post updates as soon as they become available. Stay tuned!
Next year
We look forward to rebooting WCEU for 2021, and are already making plans to hold the event at the Super Bock Arena (Pavilhão Rosa Mota) in Porto in early June 2021. Watch for updates on our blog, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.
Thank you
Thank you for your understanding and patience during this uncertain time. We appreciate your support of this difficult decision, and look forward to working with you and seeing you again in 2021.
Ok great stuff we will come back stronger next year.Good decision and well done team!
This is really sad news – but it is the right thing to do. Thank you so much for all your great work! Looking forward to seeing you next year! Cheers!
In 2020, COVID camp has replaced WordCamp so far with the cancellations of WordCamp all around the world.
We will wait for 2021, to see this event in Europe. Best Wishes!
Absolutely! First WC Asia and now WCEU!
Thank you!
Hard decision, but a good one.
Personal I don’t want a refund. Instead I want my ticket to be a valid one for the future event, in Porto. Think of that! Maybe I’m not alone.
I expect an online event (a short one, maybe one day), made possible by our sponsors.
Challenge yourself!
Hello, has the refunds been made?
Hi Raul! All tickets will automatically be refunded until April 10. It may take up to 15 days for the refund to appear in your account, depending on your bank.
