Following up from when we opened #WCEU Contributor Day registration, we would like to share with you more details about the day, such as, location, the schedule for the day and available teams where you can contribute.<\/p>\n

Over 300 people have already signed up for Contributor Day #WCEU, it\u2019s going to be a great day and there is still time for you to get involved as well. Contributor Day is for everyone, even if you have never contributed before, we can guarantee you can help out, meet loads of new people and learn lots throughout the day. You can find a full list of the teams available at #WCEU this year below and we look forward to seeing you this year.<\/p>\n

Contributor Day is about giving back to WordPress and helping the open source software grow. You will be amazed at what can be achieved when working together in teams in just one day, no matter what skills you have. Bugs are fixed, translations submitted, documentation written, future community events are planned\u2026<\/p>\n

How to prepare for Contributor Day?<\/h2>\n

We know that taking part in the Contributor Day might sound daunting for the first-time contributors. No worries. We have all been there and we want to help you to make the most out of this experience. Here’s what you need to know.<\/p>\n

#1 Open a WordPress.org account<\/h3>\n

Unlike previous years we ask you to open a WordPress.org<\/a> account before registering for Contributor Day. But don’t worry. This is easy and takes only a minute and you can do it now via this form<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

#2 Register for Contributor Day<\/h3>\n

Attendance on Contributor Day is free<\/b>, but you need to register separately for Contributor Day<\/a>, when registering you will be able to select the team that you would like to contribute towards. Keep in mind that you can change the teams during Contributor Day \u2013 we ask you to select the teams just so we can see how many people would like to join every team so we can allocate enough space for it.<\/p>\n

#3 Set up your local environment (optional)<\/h3>\n

Contributing to different WordPress teams requires working on your localhost, you\u2019ll need to set up a local development server. During the morning we will be running a Set up your local environment workshop<\/b> to help you. The workshop will be lead by Tom J Nowell (@tjnowell<\/a>), where the team will go through the setup process with you.<\/p>\n

#4 Get on Slack<\/h3>\n

Currently, the main communication medium for contributors is Slack<\/b>, so download a desktop version<\/a> or use the web version with your WordPress.org credentials<\/b>. If you don\u2019t have a WordPress Slack account you can register at https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/chat<\/a>. If you have any issues or difficulties with setting up Slack account don\u2019t worry \u2013 organisers will help you on the day<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

What else do I need for Contributor Day?<\/h3>\n

You will need your laptop<\/b> and charger<\/b> throughout the day, as well as, loads of energy to enjoy the day. Lunch will be provided.

Accessibility team request for Contributor Day<\/h2>\n

This year we have had a special request from the Accessibility team to help pair up accessibility experts and Gutenberg developers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The a11y team doesn\u2019t have enough expertise to write some of the pull requests for the Gutenberg milestone issues and most Gutenberg developers have not enough expertise on web accessibility. So pairing them up at the contributor day seems like the best solution to get work done quickly.<\/p>\n
