Why volunteer?
WCEU 2018 Global Team Lead, Jenny Beaumont says: “People often talk about volunteer work as a way to give back. And while it is that, it’s also a lot more. It’s an opportunity to experience an event in a whole new way. You become an active participant. You interact with the people around you on a different level. You get the combined “feel goods” of giving to the community and experiencing things from behind the scenes. There’s nothing quite like it!”
What will volunteers do?
WCEU volunteers are a valuable part of every WordCamp. Volunteers devote their time and knowledge to make every WordPress event better, more inclusive and impactful. Each WCEU volunteer has a unique role, and each plays an important part in the success of the event. Tasks could include:
- Registering attendees at the welcome desk.
- Mic running during speaker Q&As.
- Helping at the swag and WordPress store stations.
- Assisting speakers, catering or offering your services on the Happiness Bar.
- Assisting the communication team.
What are the benefits?
Apart from the satisfaction of knowing you are doing something worthy (and getting a free ticket to attend WCEU while you do it) the benefits of being a WCEU volunteer are huge. From connecting and networking with thousands of industry professionals and some of the biggest names in the WordPress community to learning and experiencing a wide range of interesting things, to having a memorable time in one of the most interesting and versatile cities in Europe, this is not an opportunity to miss.
