WordCamp Europe is around the corner: here’s all you need to know

We’re almost there! WordCamp Europe starts next week and we can’t be more excited to welcome you all to the beautiful city of Vienna for three days of everything WordPress! For your convenience, here’s all the important information in one post (you should have already received it in your inbox last Friday as well).

Warm up events – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

Some lovely folks are organising events in the days before the conference. You can join them and explore Vienna with other WordPress people. There’s a picnic in the park, tourist day, co-working, themes meetup and evening drinks planned. Choose where to go and get the details in the warm-up events announcement.

The conference – Friday & Saturday, June 24-25

Map: MuseumsQuartier Vienna (Halle E+G & Leopold Museum)

Address: MuseumsQuartier Wien, Museumsplatz 1, 1070 Vienna

Registration

Please note that you do not need to print out or bring any registration confirmation. Just state your name at registration. If your ticket was transferred from another attendee, you need to be able to provide their name as well. There are several options for registration:

Thursday, June 23rd

You will be able to get your badge early at the tickets desk at Halle E+G on Thursday from 14:00 to 18:00 CEST

Friday, June 24th

Registration for the event will open at 8:00 at the registration desk at Halle E+G. If you’re arriving late – no worries, you’ll be able to register at any point of the two days of the event.

Speakers, sponsors, volunteers, creative partners, technical partners and media partners should get their badges at Special registration.

Coffee will be served from 8:30 till 9:00 and filter coffee, tea and drinks will be available during the breaks. There are also many cafes in the MQ vicinity where you can grab a quick coffee during the whole day.

We start at 9:15 sharp – we’ll be very Swiss about it.

Sessions

The sessions will take place in two buildings in the MuseumsQuartier. Track 1 and 2 will be in Halle E and Halle G and Track 3 will be in Leopold Museum.

Check the schedule to decide which talks you’re going to see. There will be a lot going on, so choose wisely!

Unconference

The unconference is scheduled for Saturday afternoon. To speak at the Unconference on Saturday, go to Leopold Museum on Friday before lunch and write your topic suggestion on the suggestion board. To pick up your favourite talks, go to the Leopold Museum on Friday afternoon and cast your votes. The talks with the most votes will be announced on the website and presented on Saturday afternoon at the Leopold Museum.

Breaks and lunch

Lunch starts at 13:00 at Hofstallungen, behind Halle E+G. It will last until 14:30.  There will be direction signs and our volunteers will help you find it. Coffee, water, and small snacks will be available during the short breaks.

Networking events

Speed networking will happen at the Leopold Museum on both morning breaks. If you want to participate, please come on time, so there’s enough time to get organised and get going.

Tribe meet ups are scheduled for both days at the Leopold Museum, please check the schedule in this post. The format is very informal – you walk into a room and talk to like-minded people.

The #WCEUBall on Saturday – 20:30, Halle E

Ladies and gentleman of the WordPress world, pack your dresses, shirts and bow ties and join us on Saturday, June 25th, at 20:30 for the WordCamp Europe Ball at Halle E in the MuseumQuartier. Dressing up is optional, but a lot of people are very excited about it. Read all about the #WCEUball.

Contributor day on Sunday

WordCamp Europe Contributor day is a full day dedicated to giving back to WordPress. It will start at 11:00 on Sunday and will take place at the University of Vienna, at Währingerstrasse 29, 9th district MAP

Important: To join us for contributor day, you need to sign up and bring your own laptop.

Why does it always rain on me?

Did you lie when you were seventeen? No? Then it’s probably this Global Warming thing that’s making the weather go nuts. The weather forecast for the conference days changes on an hourly basis. As our lunch is planned to happen outside and so many warm up events are planned to be in the open, we should probably prepare for the occasional shower. There’s no way we’ll let occasional showers spoil things, though, right? Glad we got that covered.

Emerald is the new Orange!

The organising team and all the volunteers will wear bright emerald t-shirts so you can spot them easily. Please don’t hesitate to approach us with any questions.

Join #WCEU on Slack

We have a #WCEU Slack channel on the WordPress.org official Slack team for all #WCEU attendees this year. Join the channel and use it to ask questions and to connect with other people. Please respect the Code of conduct of WordCamp Europe both on the ground and on Slack.

Follow WCEU on Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat

We’ll try to snap the best moments of the conference and the surrounding events on Twitter, Facebook and (for the first time this year) Snapchat. So follow us and don’t miss the party!

That’s it from us! See you in Vienna
