Your feedback about WordCamp Europe 2016

A couple of days after the event, we asked you to fill out the WordCamp Europe 2016 survey and we’ve been enjoying the incoming feedback ever since. A huge number of you responded and what makes us really pleased is the amount of people who left feedback as open comments, suggestions, and ideas. Let’s look at what you liked and didn’t like so much.

All in all, you really really liked WordCamp Europe 2016

You gave really high ratings for overall experience (4.31 out of 5), the organisation of the event (4.32 out of 5) and our speakers (4.15 out of 5)! We are so happy you had a good time!

You were pleased with the quality of the sessions, but thought they could have been a little longer. You rated the talks you saw very high, with 72% of you sharing that you feel satisfied, fulfilled or ecstatic about them, and for 18% the talks were okay.

A lot of your comments about the schedule and the talks gravitate around the question of whether or not they should be longer, more focused on the topic or workshop-like. We are asking ourselves the same questions every year when we start planning the content. With WordCamp Europe being the first WordCamp for more than 1/3 of the people coming (38% for WCEU 2016), we need to make sure that we provide a great introduction to the community for everyone.

We try to strike a balance between providing a clear glimpse of the state of WordPress in many different areas as well as educating. We are happy that many of you got inspired during WordCamp Europe.

We need bigger breaks between sessions

We also heard you about the short breaks between sessions. We added a third venue at a very late stage of the event and we had already formed the schedule and confirmed the speakers for Tracks 1 & 2. Bigger breaks offer a better opportunity to mingle and network, so we will do our best to make the times for switching rooms between sessions more comfortable for everyone in the future.

You suggested lunch logistics improvements

We received a lot of comments about lunch on Day 1 and we understand that it could have gone better. More space, better instructions, enough food for the people with special dietary requirements. These are all things that will be taken into consideration for next year.

You loved the after party

85% of you said they really enjoyed the WordCamp Europe Ball. For the first time this year, we succeeded in providing two separate spaces for people during the after party – a party area where you could dance your night away and a lounge area where you could chill, relax and enjoy nice conversations and connecting with other people.

You gave us really good, constructive feedback around the after party, which will be taken into account for next year. We know you travel to WordCamp Europe with your family and would like to bring them to the party. We did not have the capacity for it this year, but the team is already thinking how to change that for 2017.

You are coming back!

An overwhelming 94% of you said that you would come back to WordCamp Europe next year. This is the greatest gift for the organising team. And we can’t wait to see you in Paris! (Seriously, get your tickets.)

This year the WordCamp Europe was lucky to have not one, but two talented designers volunteer their time for the event. We had the pleasure of having Scott Evans agree to join the 2016 team. He created the beautiful illustration graphics you’ve been seeing everywhere around you and designed the cute WordCamp Europe Mozart Wapuu and WCEUBall wapuu.

The amazing Sonja Leix, who’s helping WordCamp Europe for a second year in a roll, designed the stages, the beautiful #WCEUBall photo booth wall, and last but not least – our favorite piece of swag this year – the WordCamp Europe Coloring book!

We hope you got a chance to grab one from the swag tables, but if you didn’t – good news! You can now download the coloring book as a PDF!

For everyone who’d like to keep the magic of WordCamp Europe close, Sonja’s also turned the photo booth wall designs into wallpapers you can use on your computer. Download the one you love the most or all of them!

Live Streaming | Watch the WordCamp Europe sessions online

Wanted to come to Vienna, but something happened?

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered – you can see almost everything that will be happening this year in Vienna. We’ll stream live all three tracks, on both days. With so many great speakers the real problem for you will be to decide what you want to watch, so take a look at the schedule.

If you haven’t yet grabbed your free live stream ticket there is still some time to do so. Don’t say we didn’t warn you about it 🙂

On Friday and Saturday, all you need to do is to sit down on your favorite couch (or armchair, caffe bar, bus seat, …) and enjoy the talks. Here are the links for each of the tracks live stream:

If you have any trouble viewing the stream, please try using a different computer and Internet connection, because almost all the problems might be related to those factors.

Have fun watching WordCamp Europe!

All you need to know about WordCamp Europe’s largest Contributor Day

Come to WordCamp Europe’s largest Contributor day on June 26th, 2016 and learn all about being involved with the WordPress project! There are already more than 470 people signed up for contributor day, so if you haven’t signed up yet, hurry up! Our venue capacity is 500 people.

This is your chance to learn out how to contribute from experienced contributors, hang out with others who love to contribute, and push some of your own contributions — it is really all about contributing!

We’ve organized onboarding workshops and special orientation for new contributors in two separate tracks. This means that some of our most experienced WordPress contributors will be dedicating their day to help new people get started.

Do you wish to contribute and to get involved with the open source WordPress project? Just sign up, pick a team and we’ll get you in touch with an experienced contributor who will introduce you in getting involved. You don’t need to be a coder to help! No matter what your knowledge of WordPress is, there are so many areas to work on, and there will be plenty of people on hand to get you started! There’s even a free lunch and lots of coffee 🙂

Meet the European WordPress Communities – Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece

Portugal, Spain, Italy, GreeceBeing days away from the biggest WordCamp Europe ever, it’s now time to tell a final story about the European communities. We’ve travelled across Europe bringing you stories about both diverse and inspirational WordPress communities.

Our journey started with communities from Poland, Lithuania, and Estonia. Then we talked with the communities from Turkey, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Russia and shortly after that we presented the communities from Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, and Hungary. A month ago we published article featuring communities from Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany and Switzerland and 10 days later, we talked with communities from United Kingdom, Netherlands, Belgium, and France. Just last week we published the penultimate article about communities from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Greenland.

The time has come to tell the final story – let’s meet communities from Portugal, Spain, Italy and Greece. Continue reading Meet the European WordPress Communities – Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece
